Liberty Forge
Where Windows programs are hammered into
shape on the Liberty BASIC anvil
Virtual Showroom
This is where I will review things
"Liberty BASIC"
Each time I post a new review, the old one
will be moved and linked on this page.
This site is a relatively new, online users
forum.
It was started by a group of users, that were tired of
the problems at yahoo groups. These problems inclucded
such things as messages getting lost, e-mail spam and many
others. The problems started when Yahoo bought e-groups,
a free e-mail group sponsor. At first I didn't like the
new online forum, because it was so much easier, (or so I
thought), to just start my e-mail program and read all of
the messages one after another. Then I started realizing
how many messages were getting lost for several hours, or
just disapearing altogether. About a year ago, I started
using the online forum, once a week or so, I would go read
the posted messages, and answers. Now I go there on a
daily basis. It is the only forum I will use to post
questions. I still belong to the yahoo group and answer
questions there, as do many others.
The online forum is a bulliten board style forum, and is
divided into four categories, and a total of 19
subcategories. This makes it much easier to view topics
that interest you. Personally, I read some of the boards
every day, and others only once or twice a week. This
forum is currently the most popular, and my personal
favorite.
There is only one way to view or post to this forum,
that is on the internet. You can mark any thread as a
watch thread, and be notified by e-mail whenever there is a
new post to the thread. You still have to browse to the
forum to actually see the post. The messages are kept on
the server, and the search utility can be set for the
number of days to search. If you have an Idea how long
ago you saw a post, you can set how many days back to
search. Otherwise, you can just set it for 5000 days or
some random amount, to see if a topic has been discussed.
Most of the old timers are using the online forum now.
Although many still answer questions at yahoo groups.
Carl Gundel, the author of LB is a regular participant in
this forum as well. You still can't get service like that
from M$.
Unless you are just dead-set on receiving the messages
by e-mail, I highly recommend this forum over the one at
yahoo groups.
